Following the celebration of resurrection in April, Gate Ministries Douglas will shift our focus to what it means to live empowered and equipped as followers of Christ in May. Ephesians 4:12 reminds us that the church exists “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” This month, we will freshly experience that scripture. We plan to spend intentional time building one another up through prayer, teaching, and discipleship.
Our Bible studies will encourage us to go deeper, not just in knowledge of the Word, but in applying it daily. We will learn that faith is not passive—it is active. The Word of God will equip us to stand strong in trials, to witness with confidence, and to walk with integrity. Young people in the ministry will be reminded that they are not just the future church but the present church. Through mentorship and small group connections, they will discover their gifts and callings. Leaders also will rise up, stepping into roles of service with boldness and humility.
May is set to become a month of recognizing that every member has a part to play in advancing God’s Kingdom. Fellowship will be another strong theme. We will see the power of community as believers encourage one another, pray for each other’s needs, and share testimonies of God’s faithfulness. May will remind us that we are never meant to walk alone. As we grow in fellowship, our faith will become stronger. Equipping, however, is not just about receiving—it is about activating. As a church, we will be reminded that equipping is only complete when it leads to action.
The month of May will challenge us to move beyond the comfort of the pew and into the fields of ministry. Some will step out in new service roles, others will begin to witness more boldly at work or school, and many will find fresh courage to pray with and for others. This month will also reinforce the truth that equipping is ongoing. We never “arrive” in our walk with Christ. Instead, we will continue to grow, learn, and be sharpened. The Lord is preparing us for greater works ahead, and every prayer, study, and fellowship gathering is part of that preparation.
As we move forward, we will hold onto this call: to be equipped for service, steadfast in faith, and bold in love. We are not just hearers of the Word but doers. May will position us to walk in greater maturity and to embrace the work God has prepared for us.
“Equip yourselves with every good thing to do His will.” – Hebrews 13:21
